Closing out the year with my favorite image of 2023. Having been dreaming of capturing the Aurora from a snow-capped mountain for years, I never thought that this would be possible here in Wales. The dusting of snow is just the icing on the cake. This Image is looking over towards Garnedd Ugain, if you look closely you can see the zig zags from the Miners track, with Llyn Padarn to the left and the street lights of Beaumaris on the right.

Credit to @hannahbella_nel for the heads up on the G2 storm that formulated that evening 01-12-23. The weather looked favorable with clear skies and barely any wind so I took the chance and made my way in full winter gear up the mountain preparing for a crisp night ahead.

To my surprise at the summit there was another photographer who had also scaled the mountain for the same reason. We both stood in awe next to our cameras geeking out over the space weather for about ½ an hour before the frost really settled in and we parted ways. I made my descent down Rhyd Ddu path whilst Mark made his way down to Llanberis in the dark. Looking back at images always brings back memories of the journey it took to get to that moment in time and this will be one I will savor for years to come.

How fitting to find that the Northern lights are also known as “Merry Dancers”.

Where do I start? last night I had to pinch myself as the sky unraveled in front of my eyes 01/12/23. Capturing the Northern Lights from the top of a snow capped Wyddfa (Snowdon). A lifelong dream shot. This was pre planned (had to be with the baltic -10 degrees on the summit). Cameras and all electrical gear packed in pretty quick, the drone wouldn’t even launch due to the cold weather. Nonetheless a night I will never forget.

A welcoming burst of colour following a bleak afternoon wandering through the local woods. I believe this is a Birch tree - maybe an expert here could correct me if I'm wrong. This scene proved to be a diamond in the rough as I couldn't believe how many of the leaves had already fallen from the trees following recent storms.

I have never really been one for shooting in the middle of the day, especially midd heatwave. Generally you are dealing with harsh light, no contrast, and bland cloudless sky. But the Sahara dust brought some interesting mist and strange cloud formations resulting in this dramatic scene. I sat around for the best part of three hours watching the sun rays dance amongst the rugged landscape of Cwm Glass. Made a change to find such a moody landscape in 28 degrees heat. I guess the lesson learnt here is never leave the camera at home as you never know what you might find.

H I G H - S E A S O N - C L O G G Y

This iconic cliff face "Clogwyn Du'r Arddu" rich in climbing history, has been on my image wishlist for some time. I rarely go up the Llanberis path, as a photographer I tend to avoid the crowds. This image was captured a couple weeks ago whilst guiding a group for a Wyddfa moonlight summit walk for @mountainwalks. We took a breather and were rewarded with this amazing array of warm hues just before the clouds settled in for the night.
